Brake reservoir wires

You might want to check the float inside the brake fluid reservoir; last spring the brake fluid warning light on my '69 came on; when I checked the fluid reservoir, I discovered the float had come loose from its brass rod and allowed the light to illuminate.  I scrounged a replacement from my parts stash and fixed the problem.

Will try to fix the old one, but there are very few glues that stick to polyethylene...any suggestions?  Has any one else had this happen to them?
