Climb every mountain

I have an older M10 G240 transmission and a M42 G240 with reportedly only about 60k miles on it.  I won't go into details but I acquired both for only about 300 bucks.  So I got to thinking, and have a couple of questions.

1)  Is it possible to pull the back casing along with the gear sets and transfer it complete to the other transmission front casing?

2)  How hard could that be?

The result would provide me with a low mileage transmission in a casing that will bolt to my engine.
