Tension Rod Install Front Subframe

Hi Team

Am I doing something wrong here? I have installed new front bushings on the subframe. Now I am trying to install the tension rod back in through the bushing. But there isn’t any wiggle room to get the rod in to the bushing cause the rod hits the subframe at the back. I just can’t get a good angle to get it in through the bushing???

Am I doing something wrong? Must be. Can’t rememver how I pulled it apart cause it was a while back.

IIRC I had to poke a heavy steel rod into the bushing from the front and deform the bushing so it's opening was parallel to the tension rod, thus allowing the threaded end of the rod to pop into the back side of the bushing.  Kinda buffaloed me 'till I figured that out.

Yep, stuff some crowbar in the front end of the bush and twist the tube to match the angle of dangle of the rod...then it will slip together easy

I use the above technique also. You might need a 90 degree bent rod / tool to avoid contact with the front sheet metal, but this technique has worked well for me, for many years.

I had the same issue and instead removed the inner bushing, put it on the rod and then inserted the combined rod and inner bushing into the hole. With a little lube, it will go in most if not all the way. Put the outer bushing on then tighten the nut to pull it all together and seat the bushings.

FYI, I was installing poly bushings and the above was way easier than the other method.

The easy, no sweat way (used by the pros I suspect).... start with a free, uninstalled lower control arm. Begin the tension rod assembly by placing it in the subframe bushing first, then into the outboard bushing in the control arm. This gives you a big lever to distort the bushings.  Then back out the huge 16mm subframe bolt and use the leverage to line up the big inboard end of the control arm with that bolt and tap it in.

Perhaps you might remove the powdercoat where it isn't suposed to be.

The cylindrical part until the shoulder after the thread should be 13,75-13,9 mm

And install as mentioned by Mike A

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
