'74 2002 pre-purchase inspection?

Hello all - I'm new to 2002s, but not to BMWs. Was getting an emissions inspection done on my daily driver in NW Houston, noticed a 74 2002 back in a field - asked about it, they're claiming it was abandoned by the owner, it's theirs due to the storage costs. Can anyone suggest a person capable of doing an inspection on it - in place? They said it needs driveshafts, but that otherwise it runs. With just a cursory looking at it it looked pretty clean. I know there's may ways a car of this age could need a lot of work, so I'm interested in someone who'd be able to give me an expert opinion. Too far away to convince Terry Sather to come look at it, I need the NW Houston equivalent of him

You can try Bemer Motor on Richmond. They can do pre-inspection and can tow broken vehicles. Ask me how I know. 

 

Ask for Ismael Martinez and explain what you want to do. 

 

As for repairs on 02’s in Houston, there are other alternatives. Bemer fixed a Getrag tranny for a neigbor of mine on a 74 02. 

 

Others might have different experience but they can and do know 02’s.

I used to own a BMW 2002 in the late 80s and loved that car.  It was my primary form of transportation and, unfortunately, I needed something a little more reliable so I sold it and purchased another car.  Times have changed and now I am looking for a father/son project and I thought an 02 would be great.  If you are no longer interested in this 74 2002, I live in Houston (and DC) and I am interested in the 74 you discovered.

 

Did you purchase it?  If not, would you mind disclosing the location of this vehicle so I may consider it?
