Just installed one in my '76 with a rebuilt engine. After swapping the pickups everything bolted on with no issue. However, I did have to use approximately 5 shims to get the chain tension correct. I assume they must shave the mating surface as part of the rebuild process. Anyway, from a performance standpoint it works perfectly. Pressure is super smooth and stabilized once the relief opens, holding approx 65psi at anything over 2krpm. Hot idle with 20w-50 is right around 30psi. Cold starts run up to about 80-90. I also know my bearings are on the looser side of spec for what it's worth. I bought mine off of eBay.

The factory shop manual has specs for maximum permissible lash between the oil pump gears, so you can use a feeler gauge measure your own to see if they are still within specs.  If so, a very light skim of the aluminum surface that the gears spin on and your current pump should be good to go.

Intermediate plate

if there isn't one and no skim cutting necessary.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

Curious if that was with new crank sprocket/gear, pump chain and oil pump sprocket.... ?

FWIW I just put a e21 pump in yesterday. I used 3 shims and got the +- .5mm play with a new gear and shim from I.E.

Fyi the I.E website is wrong. The gear/chain combo says that the chain has a master link, just paid $100 in shipping for 2 day air only to find out that it doesn’t. I will have to pocket it for a future rebuild.

err, yeah...

I've never heard of BGA, but never did anything with British cars, either.  I DID buy parts in stores that did, tho...

Choice for me sees like  new inner and outer rotors for my old pump....or one of these BGAs. About $200 either way.

Blunt says "German Made" for his at $224. Hmmm. Better than $750 but still curious about the BGA pump.

The one  I installed above was a BGA.  I didn’t take any pictures, but I do still have the E21 pick up.  As to whether it’s rebuilt or a new casting, the pickup shows no BMW markings or pn’s.  I’m not sure  if the factory part would have them or not though.

I’ve got about 500 miles on it now, including a really cold morning (for Florida). No issues and the pressure is rock steady.
