What’s up MrAdams

First one, the 1969, was for sale for a while this spring or summer, the seller only had an email listed and never responded to my messages. This time around, he has a cell number to text and confirmed the car is in Perris, CA, and sent me a number of additional photos. I asked for a vin tag and a color sticker photo and didn’t receive either though they seem to be visible in a few of the photos.

I replied to his photos of the car instead asking about the Bristol colored roundie in the background of one of the photos but haven’t heard back lol...

Only way this shell is worth the price and hauling it out of deep deep Inland Empire is if you 1) live out there or 2) the car is actually originally Florida colored (as the trunk might suggest... am I seeing things?) instead of just Chamonix colored. Otherwise, I feel this car is worth just 1k.

The second listing, the 1972, seems to be from the same seller as an Alfa Romeo I’m interested in. I’ve seen three cars listed with the identical disclaimer at the bottom all in the same area. Seems to be offloading a stored collection.

I want to go check out the Alfa next week if it’s still for sale, I’ll let you know if I can check out the 2002 at the same time.

Hal, I’m a little bit ignorant here. Would that just mean an unfinished job preparing the engine bay for a swap?

Mr. Adams, will let you know if I can sneak-a-peep at the 72.

Chopped up front subframe with a rack and pinion unit?

I know next to nothing about rack and pinion systems but it looks like the original front subframe has been cut to accommodate one, perhaps from an e21 (see pic).  I am guessing that to get it back to original you could just replace the existing one with an original subframe.  The connections to the steering linkage would probably also have to be changed back.  Both of those jobs are doable.

Here's a link to some discussion of conversions on the 2002:  https://www.bmw2002faq.com/forums/topic/140603-any-rack-and-pinion-conversions/

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
