Description:

I have a 73 2002 that was modified back in the seventies with the Camden super charger kit. The intake manifold is cracking and requires repair or replacement. Camden no longer has a pattern of the intake, they have expressed an interest in creating a new pattern of the intake so that they can re-manufacture it. Would be costly to make just one part for me, cost could be amortized if they make 10 or more. Camden kits for other applications cost around $3400 (intake, blower, pulley, belt and hoses) - would there be any interest in this kit for other 2002's?

Please PM me if you would consider a kit - it would take 3 or more months for this to become a reality.

thanks,

bob

Not really in my to-do list because I have a M42 swap, but this seems very interesting, I am sure you can drum up some interest with E21 and early (85-89) E30 owners.  Subscribing to this thread....

Can you post some pics of the manifold and plenum design? As well as the fuel delivery set up. Thanks!

Looks like a suck through DCOE setup. You could use a single ITB with megasquirt. The end limit with this is fuel distribution and lack of an intercooler. I do like the idea. I’d like to see the front pully setup. Does it bolt to a tii hub? Would it bolt up to a O2 again 36-1 front pully?

Blower is inducted through a Mikuni side draft. Recently purchased this car and did not sort out the carburetor, its hard to start when cold and does not run well at idle without enrichment. Above 1500 RPM is smooth and feels fast but I don't have at reference point. Have spoken to some local people that have had experience with a blower on an 02 - they confirmed hard staring is inherent with this blower/side draft set-up. I attribute the idle issue to dirty carb which I don't plan to keep and have not invested effort into fixing. Do not have details about the drive side of the blower and am not an 02 guru, will take more pics and share them. Car is in the process of coming apart for some restoration work now. Have been looking at Fox Injection in the UK, they sell a weber throttle body copy called Heritage that looks period correct.

What does the manifold look like? I'm guessing cast... which isn't the most weld-friendly material, but perhaps that's an option.

For low-batch or one-off, perhaps a CNC'd part might be an option? It's hard to tell, but boy those intake runners are short-to-non-existent!

Yes the intake is cast and very short, local shop has ability to perform a decent weld repair. My original plan was to get it scanned to create 3D model - part geometry is not complex and may be candidate for high speed machining. Spoke to Camden and they sounded interested - wanted me to send them everything, they favor casting due to cost.

If Camden is interested, I would lean on them heavily to cast injection bosses into their adaptor.

They could even leave them undrilled, offer plugs, or sell both versions.  Because an injected

adaptor WOULD sell.

They'll have a pretty good idea how to do it- and the E30 M10 manifold is one example of how BMW did it,

if they need confirmation of injector position.

For $3500, a kit that you can plug Megasquirt onto is a very good deal.

The mouth of that carb is jammed right up on the fender well... sure doesn't leave a lot of room for much of a filter.  I bet it really whistles through a pancake filter.

...still, an interesting prospect that Camden would make a short run of these.  Good for them.

Mmmm. Really in for injection bungs. Either way, put me on your "list" of interested parties. I've had an eBay search on (almost) since I've owned my 02.  Thanks!

Out of San Diego, CA?  There was a Chamonix 02 in Bill Holmes Ramona Shop with a Camden Supercharger, scary fast.
