So I'm picking up a 1982 320i for the 5spd and lsd out of it. I'm hoping it's the getrag 245 but I have not confirmed yet.

Im tight for space right now and dont really want it around for much more than a week or so.

That being said, what parts are desirable / worth pulling off for resale before offering it up to the craigslist gods or possibly to the scrap yard.

What are the must haves that I need from the donor car for the lsd & tranny swap?

From what I've read I'll need the half shafts to pull the flanges but I just want to make sure i get everything off that I need before it's gone.

Thanks! 3509c4404a2d19c147f65b88de0ac64b.jpgb6d9ddccc8d8407f0e8886d6061d8ea9.jpg036331188e788661f4eb8ddec5f3d38a.jpg298eac90da9c478bc324d22febf19a02.jpge56b722aed9eaf930096da7c54af0e9c.jpg317d65f4e5c6a4f835823a673cf8c5f7.jpg8c030d0aa27e355095865dd5ee9db987.jpg64a5f36c0a606017c52e9f988273dc28.jpg

Thanks for the list and links.
I feel like I got pretty lucky on this one.
I confirmed that it is the 245 by the 3 piece body. I confirmed the lsd by jacking up the rear end and both tires spin in the same direction when you rotate one. It was to grimy to see markings unfortunately.
The m10 engine supposedly runs but the kid that last owned it had the engine bay dismantled so he could paint the bay and engine (absolutely horrible paint job[emoji2961]).
It has long tube headers. I'm hoping they will work for me but I think I read that e21 headers with hit somewhere on a 2002. After seeing the headers I decided to pop the valve cover off in hopes for a cam. To my excitement there was "Dr. Schrick" staring back at me. I checked the end and I believe what I have is a 292. I am super excited because this was on the wish list for my car. PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong but it's not compatible with with my 74 because the distributor spins the opposite way? If that is the case could I just swap heads?
Since it has a cam and headers I think im going to pull the head off tomorrow anyway to see if the bottom end is stock or has aftermarket pistons. I always love other peoples engine investigation threads so this is pretty exciting for me.
Oh, it also has an Allison electronic ignition. I'm not familiar with this brand. Is it any good / compatible / worth swapping?
And a pile of spare fuses to keep in the 2002!

Hey Toby, ill give you great deal on those awesome wheels... They should add 10hp to any race car! [emoji23]167d63e1284cbd899ce6759527f6a528.jpg718f1cda0c81d7b8673fe7b427f99d7e.jpg0ba24e0a45a439a37102f4625e69ee6e.jpgebd820681682a718416d878928dce066.jpgec43809763d2548cf35a603e67328047.jpg

Okay, you are wrong... which probably feels pretty good, in this case.

Based on the direction of the little arrow, the camshaft will be compatible with your 2002.

Oh yeah, I'll add 'muffler' to the list of compatible parts.

Tom
It has an aftermarket muffler on but I didn't examine it well enough to spot any markings. Hopefully it's something worth keeping because I need one... Some A-hole deleted the muffler on my car [emoji6], while it does sound pretty good it is a little much.

I took a distributor like that one apart once and graphed the curve after it was back together.

It seems like a reasonable curve, if you disconnect/disregard the vacuum retard side of the pod.

Here is a link to that information.
