Bought this car one year ago as project for me and my brother who is a bit more mechanically inclined. Car would run but lost power above 4000 RPM. Found a great shop here in Houston owned by Lewis Allen who has been a 2002 mechanic for decades. Almost $5k later - 2 new Weber 40’s, cleaned and coated fuel tank and various other minor fixes - car runs like a champ. Has had tons of engine work - I’m in touch with the guy who owned it for probably 15-20 years and autocrossed it all over the Southeast. I have his log book with extensive detail on modifications. Believe hes a member here and I could get an extensive list for anyone interested, but what I know: 302 cam, LSD, dual Weber 40’s, 4 speed (2nd gear is an issue, fine but have to slow shift into). Car was painted a sort of Auburn tiger orange as the long time owner was a big fan. Paint is not great. Very little rust (spare wheel bay, probably need new pedal box, small spot at base of passenger window. No carpet, needs new interior. No back seat, has simple roll cage.  Have both original bumpers and a bucket full of parts.

Just had second child and don’t have time or need for the car. It is very fun to drive and pulls hard 4000-7000 rpm.

I have about $9500 in it and would love to get close to that out... if that’s not realistic I am sure I will see it on your feedback!

thanks for looking. Can post more pics later or send to anyone privately if you’d like.

Any Suggestions on how to increase interest in the car?

More info from from the long time owners log book:

Current engine: Non numbers matching: rebuilt in 96 by Bavarian Motor Sports in Suwannee, GA.

Gone through thoroughly by Munich Motorwerke (Lewis Allen) Houston TX in February 2018 - this is when two new Weber 40’s were installed.

More pictures from log book included. Also have a folder with a ton of old old receipts.

Could go ahead and make the car more aesthetically attractive but my skills are so limited I figure someone in this community could do it cheaper... Willing to entertain offers!

This looks like an awesome hot-rod car for the street...  New owner could pull the roll bar, install some carpet and sound damping / insulation.

I wonder what would happen in you pulled the roll bar and just called the car a mechanically great car, fresh engine, limited slip, needs interior- and don't mention anything about auto-cross.

Dave - I hear what you are saying. Appreciate the feedback! As you can tell I’m an outsider to this community - been a frequent viewer of the classifieds and message boards for the past year since owning the car, but definitely still an inexperienced 02 guy. Title and content of my post - was really just trying to paint the most accurate picture of the vehicle.

I have 2 very young kids both under 2, and limited budget, this ride probably isn’t the best for my weekend car.

$8K for a dry fresh engined 02 with LSD is a damn good price, not sure why nobody has jumped on it. Agree that the autocross does not need to be mentioned that much, although anyone can see that it is built for that.  Need  more info on suspension setup.  Seems to be well sorted and just need to be made pretty.  GLWS.

I don't know that it even needs to be pretty, just not 'RACECAR!'

I might delete the ad if possible, pull the roll bar out, then relist it as a hot rod project needing an interior.  I mean, all it really needs is a little sound damping, an Esty carpet kit- and it's a great street car...

Having said that, it's really possible that some polishing compound and wax would do wonders for the look...

Your brother Mike and I have talked about this car at great length. I really like it and if I had either my e21 ITB or my tii ITA sold, we’d being having a serious discussion about your car.

All the best with the sale.

Bill - Thanks! Anything changes let me know... If I don't find the right buyer I guess I'll do a few things to make the car a little more street & family friendly.
