Crankshaft Reassembly o-ring?

Hello,

 

I'm in the process of reassembling the bottom end of my M10. The guide I'm using mentions fitting a new 'O' ring seal to the front face of the crank sprocket when installing the Woodruff key (see attached). I don't remember or have any notes pertaining to this o-ring and have not heard anyone else mention it in various reassembly guides. Since this is my first time rebuilding this type of motor I just want to make sure I'm not missing something. I have the sprocket on and the key in position- I also have the front and rear seals ready to go, but I'm curious about this o-ring mentioned. 

 

Any advice much appreciated!

Hmm. RealOEM shows a part there but it isn't named. I wonder if there's supposed to be something between the face of the crank sprocket and the back of the timing cover, like a felt ring, and your guide has a little translation issue.

Usually on realoem when I have my proper year entered and there is a item pictured but not in the list, it implies that it does not apply to your model year

 

Nor sure if Jimmy opened realoem with your year. I also just rebuilt and have no recollection of that part

The oil seal wouldn't be shown there because it doesn't attach to the crank.

I've found parts in RealOEM with no part number that I've had to send a screen shot to Blunt to get because my car uses them despite RealOEM implying otherwise. It's a great resource but it's far from a system of record/authority.

Thanks everyone. I checked Real OEM with my year (71) and got the same result shown (not named). I'm guessing I can do without it. I can't imagine what it would be used for since the oil seal seems to do all the work keeping the oil contained. If it leaks I guess I'll know what the cause is :D
