Hi,

Will Volvo callipers clear early steelies and borrani's? Both 13" wheels. I know it works on most 13" steel wheel, but not sure. Who tried?

thnx

The answer is also tied to the rim’s offset.  The stock steel rim for a round taillight ‘02 (excepting the 2002ti, 2000tii touring, and 2002tii) is 4 1/2” x 13, ET35. This will not fit over a stock tii caliper, so it’s not likely to fit over the wider Volvo caliper. Obviously a stock tii rim, 5” x 13, ET26, will fit over a stock tii caliper and — I’d guess it might fit over a Volvo caliper, as there’s a little spare room with a stock tii caliper. There are two versions of the 6” x 13 Borrani (CMR) rim, however, an ET17 and an ET30. I’d be especially doubtful with ET30 versions, but an ET17 version — which I suspect is what downhillwolf is using — might be OK.

@downhillwolf, what size and offset of Borrani’s are you running with Volvo calipers?

Regards,

Steve

Thnx, Do know the off set of borrani. Must look the the wheels. I am planning to use the ti steelies: 5J

What size Borrani rims? 5”? 5 1/2”? 6”? 6 1/2”? (As I mentioned above, the 6” rims came in both ET17 and ET30 versions.)

I also did the volvo calipers on the vented rotors upgrade. Unfortunately I needed to change out my 1976 13" steelies to some 14's.

The square taillight styled-steel factory rim is 5” x 13, ET29, very close to the round taillight ti/tii factory rim of 5” x 13, ET26. If the factory ET29 rim does not accommodate a Volvo caliper, I’m now guessing that the extra 3mm offset of the factory ET26 rim will not be sufficient to fit a Volvo caliper.

Steve

The 5,5 version

So...those have an offset of ET22. I simply don’t know if those will fit over Volvo calipers. I’m wondering if downhillwolf has the 6 x 13, ET17, version of Borrani’s, since he appears to have no conflicts between rim and caliper. The smaller the offset, the further “outboard” the rims sit.

Waiting for downhillwolf and others to provide more data...

Steve

Steve you are correct, I did test fitment with R1/528 Borranis with 6J et17 That I got as a spare wheel.

Thanks!

So here’s where we’re at:

1. 6 x 13, ET17 Borrani steelies should fit over Volvo calipers (for vented discs).

2. 5 x 13, ET26 OEM steelies (Lemmerz, Kronprinz, or Solrad) will not fit over Volvo calipers.

We simply don’t know whether a steel rim midway between these two poles — e.g., 5.5 x 13, ET22 — might fit over Volvo calipers. By the by, 6 x 13, ET17 Borrani steelies are, today at least, far more common than 5.5 x 13, ET22, Borrani steelies, hence a dearth of forum responses....

Steve

So there's no one out there who either (a.) runs 5.5" Borrani steelies with Volvo calipers, or (b.) has attempted fitment of a 5.5" Borrani with Volvo calipers?

Thanks and regards,

Steve

I want to on my ti!

I’m not so optimistic on the 5.5” Borranis.  I collect ‘02 period rims and I’ve always avoided any calipers beyond ti/tii calipers because so many owners have warned me that I’ll not be able to fit many period rims. A 6”, ET17 (R1/528) Borrani might be your best workable option.
