Ana- the printed graphics from Real OEM are very handy.

The A and B pillar coverings go in first before the headliner and front/rear glass.

The dashboard (with defroster ducts) gets installed before the windshield.

The heater box should be installed shortly after the dashboard.

Great story--and your persistence is to be admired!

A warning--I noticed in one picture the car was elevated on jackstands set on concrete blocks; THAT'S VERY DANGEROUS, especially the way they were set.  Hollow concrete blocks aren't meant to take side loadings, and even if slightly flawed can collapse without warning.  DON'T DO THAT AGAIN.  Even if you weren't under the car when it let go, it could roll over and damage you and the car.

Warnings out of the way...you need to drive the finished product to next year's Mid America 02Fest in Eureka Springs AR (late April) and/or to Vintage in Asheville (late May).  We all want to see the finished product and meet you in person.

cheers

All the pictures on the first post are pictures my Dad took while he was working on it, and yes as a mechanic myself I also do not recommend that technique. I am hoping to have this done by next year to make it to The Vintage. Hopefully it will be finished so I can fly my mom out here and we both drive down together in the finished product.

bimmer_b (Ana)—Awesome back story and beautiful build. I’m just finishing a long restoration of a ‘72 tii that should be able to get to Summit Point next season in relatively decent tune. Suggest we 02 owners have a “show” at some point.

That would be neat, I just drove Phil's on Sunday which made me even more excited to finish mine. I'm just trying to get as many parts as I can right now so I can have all winter to sort through it and install what I have collected. I need to find a chrome shop that can take some of the dents out of a few trim pieces and refinish them as well as a replating place that can do all my hardware.

yes...the italian car club had a show last weekend during the SCCA race and they all did parade laps at lunch.  we should do that with all of us DC region 02ers.   just have to watch out that the half dozen or so 02's that race in ITB class don't scavenge parts from the visitors!

@bimmer_b I used Parker in Greensboro for yellow zinc (“cad”) plating, You might want to get everything as clean as possible with a very fine grit/polish compound in a vibratory tumbler. I didn’t and it shows :(. It still looks great, though, compared to plain zinc.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
