I shoutld start posting all my vintage pics...been involved (as a spectator mostly) since the early eighties and have many past venue (riverside, palm springs) pics.

I think the lay-down/90 degree distributor housing was originally made for marine engine applications. I had one with a '66 casting date. They are very hard to find these days, but with a lot of sports racers moving to crank-fire ignition (and running under more lenient rules) there doesn't seem to be enough demand to try to reproduce it.
