Securing Clardy Shifter Console - Rear Tab?

Got my reconditioned console from Denver 02. I figured how it attaches from the front but was looking as to how to secure the rear portion to the tunnel.

 

I notice that there is a little metal attached to the rear retainer that 1) secures it from the outside (noticeable) or secures but it from the inside of the console (how ones is going to attach it that way would require small hands to attach through the shifter opening? 

 

Or am I missing something? Has anyone done this reattachment?

I don’t have a good photo of this rear bracket after I tidied it up, but here, at least, is the before photo of the rear bracket. As you can see, the original mount — which this is, from 1976 — left something to be desired. After the shifter surround is completely assembled and placed down over the shifter (a.) two side-mounted screws (with black, finish washers) attach the front of the assembly to the plastic faceplate of the Clardy console and (b.) a single screw (also with a black, finish washer), which just barely peeks out at the rear of the assembly, attaches the rear of the assembly to the driveline tunnel. It’s a “3-pointed mount” that has worked well for 42 years. Given how cobbled-together this rear-most attachment is, I wonder if I had to invent it myself when I installed the Clardy in my then-new ‘76.

Yes, Justin, my ‘76 is not around, but a similar photo of my ‘76 would show the screwhead just visible here.
