For those that like 02 sightings.

The lead character Jack Ryan (played by John Krasinski)  in The amazon series of the same name  drives a very nice 2002

Seen on the Pilot episode as he takes it to a very fancy Party...

So far really liking the series. Once you get through the initial set up of the characters.

Cheers!

Loose: Not tightly bound. Subject to motion.
Lose: What happens when you are spell check dependent.

1975 Malaga. It is rusty but runs. Just like me.

I reported it on IG Friday night.  Car looks to be a 73tii.  Not sure of the color, maybe Baikal.  US bulging front turn signals, rear bumper with overriders and Euro plate lamps, euro tag holder with D.C. License plate and side markers.  Rear view shows hanging grab (assist or hold on tight) straps which to me suggests a sunroof car. No rear reflectors on the tail panel.

They goofed up in one episode where a refugee family was staying in a safe house in "Annandale".  When the scene showed a car (with VA plate) pull up to said house, the location on the screen said "Annandale, Maryland".  Should be Virginia.

But that's the beauty of it being a safe house, everyone thought it was Annandale, VA but it was Annandale, MD! Sneaky!

I wonder if at the end of the series and the action with the 5 series, will he be reunited with his '02.  (Hopefully, the young, attractive lady Coast Guard ensign knew to let the fuel pump run a couple of seconds before turning the ignition.)  I read on other sites that BMW had some input on the auto placement.  So, this will make us all look more cerebral than we actually are!

If the bumpers are on the original brackets, it appears to be a '72.  Tires appear to be 165's as well.  The color appears to be Baikal.  Note it has the FPS wheels and vintage correct rear model badge that tucks up to tail light.

Well, since the rear bumper and license plate have been Europeanized, the lower, pointy front bumper overriders might simply represent the Europeanization of the front bumper. And if they’re both “Euro”, the bumpers won’t help us distinguish 1972 from 1973, as both years are identical — including tight-in bumper brackets — from a Euro perspective.

(Aside, in Andy Rooney’s voice: Did you ever wonder why some people install perfect Euro bumpers, but keep U.S. side marker Illumination and headlight buckets? I do. ?)

From the fuzzy front-end shot, the front side grilles might be shallow, but that just suggests later 1972 or 1973. Similarly, the upcoming “underhood shot” — ? — may provide ambiguous evidence when it reveals aluminum intake runners and a firewall notch...

I’m waiting for the scene that focuses in on the right end of the heater/defroster’s air plenum. If the EPA tuning instructions are black on a silver background, it’s a 1972 model (example below); if the EPA tuning instructions are white on a black background, it’s a 1973 model....

But wait....if they’ve jettisoned the U.S. bumpers, maybe they’ve jettisoned the EPA tuning instructions. Sh*t!  ?

Regards,

Steve

Just watched the last episode (8) in the first season.  The tii is parked outside the "safe" house.  Shows the car from the side.  Based on the style and bumper bracket placement of the front, I'm still betting this is a 73.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
