Description:

Aloha all!

Here is another outstanding specimen that most will be familiar with - and yes, it too is originally from esty's stable.  I found it here on the forum a handful of years back and with an overflowing garage and carport, it's time to thin the herd.  Both the outside (other than new wheels and tires) and inside are just as they were when I took it back home - below is a list of things I've done while it has been in my care - most within the last year:

New Weber 38/38 carb, kit and jet kit, gas tank, brake reservoir, brakes, emergency brake cable, CV boots, transmission mounts, clutch, clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, braided clutch line, radiator, starter, plugs, wires, ignition coil, ignition system, summer air box, inner tie rods, outer tie rods, center tie rod, heater core, heater box foam kit, heater valve mount reinforcement, heater valve repair kit, full set of Bilstein HD shock, rebuilt oil pump, replaced transmission bell housing (sill have the old one), installed new tires and set of BBS wheels (still have tires, wheels and BMW hubcaps).  I also have a 2002 script, BMW roundel, new door brake set, and new handbrake upgrade kit.

While all the major parts were out, the entire undercarriage was inspected (no rust was found) and cleaned, then treated with Rusto-Oleum Rust Reformer.

The first 21 pics are from esty when I picked up the car - the remaining are since I've had it.

If I was keeping it - I'd contemplate painting it but I personally love the two-tone look although I understand some may not.  It came chamonix from from the factory but I'd rather not shoot it a single color I may prefer...another two-tone look...etc...I'll leave that decision to the next owner!

Thanks iinca! That credit goes to esty as this car and interior/exterior was all his creation and for his enjoyment. I was thrilled to come across it when I did which is why I grabbed it back then.

And yep - you’re correct Donnelly - Northern Virginia. I was in Texas a few years back when I drove to get the car from esty and I had it shipped out here when I relocated a couple years ago.

And iinca - esty loved this green and shot it the way it sits today. It is similar to Florida or Macao but is not a match to either. I understand that two-tone is not for everyone but I love it and get compliments on it each and every time it’s out!

Just say when - I’ll start pouring!!!

:0)

Cheers!!!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
