Price: $900
Location: SoCal
Description:

This is an original BMW Microfiche machine.  I don't know if I've ever seen another one ever sold on here. For those who don't know, this is what BMW Dealers used for parts diagrams before they digitized everything on the ETK.  Some of the diagrams were never digitized (or removed from ETK), like a few of the differential diagrams.  A couple of the tabs are broken, but the machine is remarkably complete.

Film for BMW 2002, CS Coupe, E21, E30, E32, E28/E24, and more are all included.

Local pickup only (LA/OC California).  Not really looking forward to selling this.

Somewhere I have set of microfiche for one of these. When I needed to look up a part number, I went down to the local library and sort of “forced” the fiche to work in the library’s microfiche reader — the fiche formats were different... ?

Glad to see at least one of these BMW-format readers survived!

GLWS,

Steve

Andrew, thanks for this nostalgic link to the past and GLWS.  I too still have the dirty old films but lost my hardware a while back.

As a young, hard-up parts manager for an independent BMW shop In the '80's I spent many hours staring at that dark, flickering screen, sliding my microfiche in and out, around and around trying to find the best spot to locate my parts. It was all we had at the time but the porn is much better now, what with the internet and all.

Don't laugh.  My company still uses (2) of these (one a reader, one a reader/printer) for researching equipment we built going back to the '60's and '70's.  The printer doesn't work anymore, so we have to take a picture with our phone.

Just because it's old doesn't mean it's useless.
