Thank you for the Cars and Coffee notification for Saturday.  Is there a communication list I can get on if one exists?  Anthonywerre@gmail.com.

I am going to have to pass on Saturday.  Temperatures are supposed to be 108.  That’s a little warm coming home.

That’s the Terry Sayther 02berFest. Several days driving around F-burg and staying at the Peach Tree Inn.

Helluva good time.

  • 1 month later...

Happy Saturday all. Is Terrys event something that I could drive to for a day or is staying the weekend the best?  F1 is the weekend prior and we will be there for 4 days. Trying to plan the best.

Can I also get on a email list or something for reminders on gatherings or things people might be going to?

You can definitely drive in for the day Saturday morning.  We've had a few Houston 02rs do it in years past.  Leave early enough to get to the Hanger Diner for breakfast Saturday morning.  That's the meeting place and start of Saturday's hill country drive.  Terry and Debbie put together a good drive that will have us zipping around the area with a few scenic stops and lunch break.  More driving after lunch that usually wraps up around 3pm-4pm if I recall correctly.  Not uncommon to have a few head out after lunch.  Terry should be putting out an email soon for the 02berfest.  I'll post something on here and the main board when he does.

Our next Austin area BMW 2002 and Vintage BMW Cars and Coffee is Saturday morning,  September 15th at 8am.  We meet at Mozart's Coffee Roasters on Lake Austin Blvd.  We actually use the Hula Hut parking lot since they aren't open in the mornings.  Get there early because the lower lot we use has filled up the last two months.

Thank you for the information Greg.  Unfortunately I won’t be able to make it down Saturday.  My son has a football game in the morning.  Dang, one of these days I will make it.

Will look for the information for Terry’s drive.

Thank you!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
