What did you do to your NK this week?

Recommended Posts

Getting ready to tear my 65 apart to try the new platform. I was thinking no go as the motor is supposed to be forward a few inches in early cars but Mike Pugh did his 65 and seems to remember shortening it the same as the other 25 2002 5 speed swaps hes done. So we will see. Gonna squeeze the last bit of good driving in first though

@NickVyse this is my 2nd 5 speed swap in an NK. So far no issues!

Need new motor mounts as passenger one is gone!

Platform is centered to where it should be length wise. Need to re-align side to side once I swap in the new motor mounts. No tunnel banging required so far!

The early long-body 4-spd transmissions are 27" from the face of the bell-housing to the integrated shifter center where it comes through the transmission tunnel (no platform on the early long-body 4-speeds).

How does this compare to the 5-spd setup?

1800 was sitting a bit low with the 02 coilovers at their highest setting! Installed Longer bolts and 02 strut spacers to gain a bit of adjustment!

Happy New Year everyone!

Closed out 2018 with weekend drives of the NK, a visit to the Conejo Valley cars and coffee.

2019 plans, start the metalwork on the NK!

What are your NK New Year resolutions?

My NK is at Carl Nelson’s getting a 2 barrel swap modified to hold my early small air cleaner.  Carl says the 1 barrels run too lean at highway speeds and can burn the valves.  Keeping the manual choke as well so it looks correct.  It will see lots of driving miles this New Year, cheers everyone.

I love this thread. The updates are inspiring.

What did I do to my NK this week? I dreamt about it. My wife, two daughters and I embarked on a year-long trip to France last summer so that meant that I had to find a safe place to store my NK and 2002. Fortunately, I found more than that. The cars are parked inside, out of the elements, and are even being driven a little bit now and then to keep them fresh. As a bonus, I occasionally receive a picture via email.

All of this leaves me with plenty of time to add to the list of things that i want to do to the NK. The list is comprehensive and growing.

Happy New Year to everyone!

Brian

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
