Firewall isolation (51487450110) available again

Just wanted to let you guys know the firewall pad is available again from BMW.

Here's a picture of my original one and the new firewall pad

Mine has a bit of extra moulded product at the heat shield but I tried fitting it in the car and it's not visible at all..

I think they put the aluminium foil in the mould and then pour the material into it as there is a adhesive strip at the top of the aluminium foil.

My friend is the wholesale parts mgr. at the local BMW dealer. I paid about $200. though that is with my discount, I don't know what list price is, and that can vary from dealer to dealer.

Three quick questions as I’m not near my car.

Why would the mold be different? Wouldn’t it be the same as the old BMW mold even if the original mold wore out?

Can you remove this part from your car without destroying it or it or should I just get a new one.

Is the Tii identical to this one pictured.

Thanks guys.

Edit: D.Martijn. It looks like the foil is missing on the far right side. Was that scraped and tore off or did it come like that?

Pretty shabby if it is like that new for BMW to ship out.

I'm pretty sure it's a new mold as there is a big BMW logo & part no printed on the backside of the isolation.

The original pad doesn't have this.

You'll have to remove quite a bit of stuff to get to the isolation, brake boosted mount, fuel lines, brake lines.. Everything that fits against/just in front of this pad.

There is only one part number for this isolation as far as I know so there should not be any difference.

It's not that the foil is missing, it's that there is some extra product moulded on top of it. I'm sure that I could make a small cut wth an exacto knife just on the parting line where the foil ends and pull/scrape the extra material off from the foil. But like I stated, it's not visible at all once fitted.

There are basically two different firewall insulations for these cars as far as I know.

  1. part # 51487450110 - for all model years except 75/76
  2. part # 51481836651 - exclusive for 75 and 76
