What’s up fellas,

I’m a new member to this group but have been around forums under this handle for years. I purchased a neglected racecar a few years ago and have now decided to pull it out and get it running again. If you know anything about it, I’d love to hear it! It’s a 72’ 02tii #77 the name on the roof says Dan lofgren I do know it was raced on the west coast by several other guys possibly Rudy Duviak (sp?), I plan to keep it as-is with decals and may restore the missing ones and leave it patina for character sake. She’s rough but has potential. Let me know your thoughts and if you have any parts that I may need contact me ASAP!!

Hey, Nice looking race car! I think I've seen your youtube videos. Ti's were only made from 68-71. From pictures it doesn't look like a Ti. Doesn't have a clock. Not sure if the Ti's came with the newer two piece dash. Doesn't have the mounts for Airboxes either. Could you send the vin? or at least the first four digits. Should be 168xxxx or 169xxxx. Looks like it has a low battery and a tii brake booster. Cool that is has 73-74 tii fuel injection!

VIN 2760481

That's a USA/North American specification 1972 2002tii.

The front left side inner wheel house looks to have been replaced (note the weld near the fusebox).

I hope you have the racing logbook to go with it.

That’s a great car. Start with a good scrub and go from there.

If the intent is to actually race the car, you will need to decide if it is an historic class where you race the car as-is or whether you update the safety equipment. You would need to work out what it would be legal for as it stands.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
