MOMO Heritage wheel - California

I had to try one of the "new" MOMO Heritage wheels after looking over their website.   I have a 1983 MOMO Veloce wheel which is great but wanted to change the view from black to chrome.  The new California wheel is nice but not quite the quality from 1983 IMHO.  Leather edge at wheel spokes has a rough cut and wheel grip diameter feels tiny (~1") compare to the Veloce 1 1/8".  Overall a nice looking wheel and I'll see if we become better friends on the 10 hour drive to Asheville.

I've been considering this wheel as well and have the same concern that the grip is too thin. Please post your thoughts after your trip.

Safe travels.

did you just swap the horn button from your old wheel

Yes,  there was a reducer ring behind the old MOMO wheel that it snapped right into.  Without that the old and new MOMO horn buttom would be too small to plug in.

I think I'll do a test drive tomorrow for a few hours (up to Hershey PA to watch the regional PCA auto-x)  Will give some feedback on the wheel after that run.

Momo came over to do the photoshoot for that wheel.  We used a coupe, but I thought it fit the 2002 much better.  The spokes are thicker than the OE steering wheel, but thinner than the Prototipo.  It felt like a really nice compromise.

As a nice touch, IE has the retro-style Momo/Nardi hubs.  Not the cheeseball accordian ("crash-safe") hub.  It comes with that center reducer ring as well.

Edit: ha, just saw the pictures on their website.https://www.momo.com/en-us/product/heritage-california/

Here's a "behind the scene" shot... totally osha approved.

Overall, a nice steering wheel.  The wheel finger grips are a bonus and the chrome does brighten up the cabin.   Its an adjustment from the bratwurst sized steering wheel on my modern DD BMW. (not much surface area to rest your hands on for those long interstate drives.)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
