ISO Restoration Work

My apologies if this question has been asked recently and answered. (Is there a search function to the forum? Can't figure it out if so) I am new to the Bay Area 02 club, despite having owned various roundies for the last 20 or so years. My first was a beautiful red 72tii which had been restored. Sadly I sold the car when my son was born (02's and car seats are tough!). Recently I purchased a 73tii which needs some work. I am looking for some recommendations for shops, as I would like to bring it back to its original color, and there is a bit of rust that needs to be repaired in the process. Thank you for any reccos you can send my way. I hope to meet some of you at some events in the future. My soon to be 16 year old son has an appreciation for his mom's car, and he would no doubt enjoy meeting some fellow enthusiasts.

Hello Kay, My name is Roger Elle and I am the owner of European Enterprise .  I have been restoring 2002s for 40+ years and would be happy to talk to you about your car.  I can be reached at 510-672-1222. I recently completed a restoration for Daniel Sanders (see link below). He and some of my other clients have left feedback about my work in this forum.  I hope to hear from you. Roger.

Hi Kay--

I've seen some of Roger Elle's work and I recommend him.  When I visited his shop he had a malaga 2002 mostly apart and he was performing metal repair in important places, before spraying with (probably no longer available) clear-coat-free paint.

Another shop to consider is Paul Colby's Auto Sports Exclusive in San Mateo.  And for the (far) South Bay, Michael Dubois in Hollister is quite familiar with 2002's, even though he sold his tii a few years ago.

Maybe some shops will have staff at Swap & Show next Saturday (5 May) in Brisbane.  Certainly there will be other owners with experiences and recommendations to share!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
