Car arrived from Georgia yesterday but sadly has only been then since 2013 and was actually a Michigan car so she's rustier than i had hoped.

The plan was to pull the m42 out of my 91 318is and put it in the 02, take it to Jake B and have him boost it for me since he's only a couple hours away.  Now I'm not sure what I'll be doing since I have a lot more work to do than I had originally hoped for and about 4 or 5 other projects.

Anyways here it is, 72 originally Agave $1200 rustbox

Joe, sorry the car is not what you expected but for $1200, it looks pretty complete, especially if the carb and instrument cluster is included in a box someplace. There is a whole group of folks here that can help you figure out how to get it where you want it, whether you decide you want it perfect or want it sold.  :)

Welcome to the group!

No carb or instrument cluster sadly.  The pictures I were sent led me to believe it could have been a southern car with some rust.  Also when I asked about the bask story they said they didn't know but the original bill of sale from the seller in Michigan back in 2013 was under the bill of sale they sent me with the car now.  Its a $1200 roundie I cant be that mad. Was just hoping I was getting a southern car with maybe some rust not a Michigan car.  I live in Michigan lol I know what the cars are like here thats why I jumped at a southern car for $1200.  Regardless It'll get fixed and probably swapped with the m42 In time.

Anyone have any advice on how to get the trunk open without a lock/cylinder present?

Cheers

It’s actually a 1973 model.  The 1973 model year begins with VIN 2585139 (or thereabouts) and yours appears to be VIN 2587799, or something similar (if it’s, in fact, 2587799, it’s probably a January 1973 car).

There are other clues: (a.) the front and rear bumpers on 1973 models, although chrome with black rubber rub strips like the April 1971 through 1972 models, stand an inch or so out from the body; (b.) the front bumper overriders on 1973 models are pointy like yours; (c.) the EPA emissions tuning sticker on 1973 models is white lettering on a black background whereas the 1972 emissions tuning sticker is black lettering on a silver background; and, most importantly, (d.) this same EPA emissions tuning sticker lists 1973 as the model year!

The model years generally ran from September 1 through August 31.  If your car’s VIN is not 2587799, but is an earlier number, it could have been manufactured in 1972, but it would still be a 1973 model, regardless of how it might be titled.  VIN 2587308 was the first U.S. 1973 model manufactured in the 1973 calendar year.

BMW Archives (info.grouparchiv@bmwgroup.com) can provide the actual manufacturing date if you request their data on the car via email and provide your car’s VIN.

Welcomel

Regards,

Steve

The trunk latch is actuated by a little tang on the end of (your nonexistent) tumbler. It pushes a flat lever in on the latch when the button is pushed. A small shaft should work for you. Probably around 3:00 I think.

Good luck,

Ray

Stop reading this! Don't you have anything better to do?? :P

Thanks for the help guys.

The car didn't come with a title only a bill of sale that stated it was a 72, I'll have to learn all the small differences, didn't realize there were so many.

I'll see if I can get the trunk open in the next couple of days.  I'll update this as i ago.

Thanks again

not a bad buy for the money. good base for a project especially if you're going to do some engine swapping. at least with this kind of car you wouldn't be afraid to get the grinder out and start making some adjustments, if it was much cleaner then you might change your mind and not follow your goals.

72 VINs run from approximately 2577438 to 2585137; 73 VINs run from 2585138 to end of production at 2593704.

PM me if you plan to part out your 318is--I have one and am always looking for bits 'n pieces...

Sorry to read about your car.  Just how many pictures did you review before buying?

I was sent about 10 photos.  One that showed some rocker rust.  I asked where the car came from and they told me they didn't know.  I found the original bill of sale under the bill of sale they put in the car from 2013 that stated the car was from Michigan.  Here are a couple photos I was sent.  You can see the floor looks pretty dang clean in the one photo which led me to believe it could be a southern car.  The third photo shows the worst rust picture he sent me.  Figured it might need some new rockers.

If anyone has an early nose panel for sale around Michigan or the surrounding states let me know lol

Thanks

Was the seller Rob Levinson of UUC?

yes.  Two days after I bought it I actually saw a post on the r3vlimited Facebook page regarding Robs poor customer service.  Should have known then what I was getting

I posted here about the service from them over an order.  Nothing happened until I had Visa resolve.  UUC acted on the 89th day of a 90 day period to resolve.  Seems like UUC likes to have Visa around.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
