1602 Cluster Rehab nearly complete ... with video!

Geoff Raynak

Recommended Posts

here is a video of the current state of my cluster

still need to chase down a weak ground somewhere ...

and can only assume that the spiky tach is just what it is ...

but i'm happy with the (current) results ...

  • brake light works again
  • back-lighting is good
  • high-beam light is good
  • blinker light is bright
  • hazard switch has new (led) bulb
  • all blinker lights on all corners blink
  • tach revs

now just need to get the dash done and back in

waiting for a warmer day to start that project

happy saturday

Why's your high beams on the right stalk? :)

because i could?!

i just think that the blinker is more ergonomic on the left ... so i swapped them!

straight swap ... and the horn ring can rotate ... so it doesn't care

i have not yet tried to wire the high beams so that high is up ... but imagine i can just swap 56 / 56a / 56b ...

one variable at a time.

i've got my ground gremlin (on the cluster) fixed now ...

so maybe i'll go back out and try to flip the hi/low

had a few people ask me about bulbs and brightness and LEDs ...

not saying these are the only options ... but they seem to be working for me right now :

they take a bit of troubleshooting ... since they are diodes and only work one way ...

but i've sorted that out on the backside...

the housings are here ... they take the tiniest bit of "opening up" to fit onto the PCB
the bright-white leds are here

i changed all the bulbs (including the warm-white cluster illumination)

and even changed the hazard bulb in the knob

super easy once the cluster is out (or just spin off the top of the knob)

Well okay then! ;-)

BTW I bought the canbus ones -- they have a resistor.

I used my old housings.

So far, so good.
