Ireland 314 cam

Has anybody used the Ireland 314 cam?    Had any issues with degreeing it in?    What about the high lobe centers?   Lot's of questions if this cam produces a wide rpm range of power or is it really narrow?   I am helping out a friend that is using one of these and have some worry about it

Thanks, Rick

I have used it, in its first iteration.  I liked it.  It pulled hard from 3500 to 7500, and it was not

particularly peaky doing so.  In that configuration, I had 45dcoes with 36mm chokes, and a 1.5" primary header.

This was the third cam I had in this engine, and it was by far the best match

(12:1 compression, stock pin height, etc)

No rocker issues, the geometry seemed pretty good.  I was very careful in break-in, and used springs that

were #10 heavier closed, #40 more on the nose than stock.  (from memory, so I might not be exact on this)

I later took the whole lump out for  a refresh, and was horrified at how SLOW the 'good baseline' engine was in comparison to the one that had this cam.

It did hit the stock journal on installation.  As in, it scuffed on the way in.  Didn't need a relief, but another .01mm taller

lobe and it would have.

I did NOT degree mine carefully- I did a quick check for symmetry, and bolted it up where #1 was where it made sense to be.

It was pretty darned close to stock, given that I run 128mm heads.

(I had the head off for some other reason, and this was a 'well, hell, I'm so far behind in the points right now, why not' thing.)

I would use it again in a heartbeat.  Keep in mind, this was the first one they offered, and it may have changed since.

fwiw,

t
