Recent Dashboard Resto

Guest John

I just picked up a three piece dashboard for my 69 and was wondering if anyone recently had a dash restored. I did a search and the latest I could find was back in 09. Just Dashes looks to be a top contender. The google did not seem to turn up anyone else that was listed back then, but I could have missed it..I’m in Western Washington and in would be cool to find someone close but that’s secondary. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks

John

Sent my '73 Tii 2 piece to Just Dashes. They have a 12 week turn around and your dash will sit in the warehouse for 3 weeks before they open it. Estimate to restore was $2,500.

Decided to go a different route due to the long turn around time, had to pay them a $65 repacking fee.

I have seen the work of Just Dashes on a couple of 2002s and they looked great. I have a local friend who uses them exclusively.

Hopefully we will see you at the XXX drive in Burgers and BMWs meetup in May.

Here is a motivational photo posted by Chamonix72, in this thread about last years gathering.

I recently had a 2 piece dash done by Tony at Autobahn Interiors in San Diego ....... my 2nd dash done by him.  (other  was a  1 piece E24)  They are a porsche 356 interiors shop but seem happy to dabble in 02 interiors.  Workmanship is great, first rate.  They help decide  color and whether leather or leatherette is best for you.   The E24 dash  several years ago was  $650    The recent 02 dash was $1,400  but he wanted more - $1,800   .....with him mistakenly thinking that it was 2 separate dashes/ 2 cars.   And he rightfully pointed out that it is really 3 pieces, with the glove box cover.  So you might want to establish the price expectation upfront.   I wish that I had sent him a 4th piece - the steering column top cover.   Took a couple months.  He has a website worth looking at but Phone calls only, no emails.

You should also check with Jose Luis Ibarra  ..... He's in Pamona Ca.  I got another E24 dash from him, and his work is good.  $900 and he supplied the complete dash, recovered,  not just me sending in my dash to recover.    I got the impression that doing dashes might be a sideline for him.    He is on facebook.  or call him 909 762 6649

As with any dash recovering, you need to realize that there is inherently going to be some spirited wrestling and trimming to get the instrument cluster, and the plastic defroster scoops,  and the heater slider lever covers to squeeze back into place.   Best bet is to send those with the dash and try to get them to think through how they are going to fit when complete.

As of about mid 2017, which is the last time I checked, W&N still had 3 piece dashboards available, and I recall the price was <$2k.  They are/were likely the euro version with the chrome trim, so the bottom piece might not be what you are looking for.

for guys in socal that want a better/cheaper alternative to just dashes you can call up jack at jf pro. he has a guy that does them really nice (almost as good as just dashes for ~1k less)

i had him do my 2 piece 71 dash and the instrument cover and glove box and they came out really nice, borderline concourse quality.
