Has anyone here bought and installed the DTech (Select Classics) air conditioning system?

Recommended Posts

Pursuant to the thread below, has anyone here bought and installed the Dtech system from "442Stang," the guy at Select Classics? I'm putting the finishing touches on my new a/c book, Just Needs a Recharge: The Hack Mechanic Guide to Vintage Air Conditioning. I'm one of the folks who tried the Hurricane 2000 climate control box and couldn't get it to fit. I've read the thread thoroughly and the claims on their website, but I'm curious if a FAQer has hands-on experience with it.

The link to the system is here (http://www.dtechparts.com/bmw-2002-heat-and-ac-evaporator-new-redesigned-as-modern-car/).

Thanks.

Yeah, Toby, I'm really trying NOT to do that; I just want to know if anyone has actually bought and installed their a/c products.

Technically, it's the Hurricane 2100 with the electronic controls instead of cable controls.  I originally thought it was similar to the 1000.  Now, I am reasonably sure that it is the 2100 inside unit.

One of the members here stated that he purchased the unit in the post below.

To be clear, I'm not specifically trying to find out which climate control box they're using. I'm simply asking if anyone here on the FAQ has purchased and installed any of their products.

Thank you, Rob!  This — i.e., the merits, benefits, disadvantages of the various options — is something many of us A/C lovers want to hear.  I somewhat fear that any users of the Dtech system may have “gone to ground” in light of this forum’s (ridiculously) nasty reaction to all things Select Classics....?

You may find yourself meeting with the Dtech Deep Throat in a parking garage....?

Best regards,

Steve

I didn't fear that.

I just assumed all Dtech system users were fictional.

And I, Ray, want Dtech Deep Throat to blow the lid off this whole damn cover up, when he/she says something shocking like, “Yeah, the system works!”

?

Best regards,

Steve

I actually did place an order for one. I haven't received it yet and it will be a while until it's installed, but I'll report back about it once it's in and functional (or not).

I bought one also. Still sitting in the box as I am in the middle of an M42 conversion. Transaction was smooth with a little delay but nothing unreasonable. Should be at the install point sometime in April. I will report back also.

Let’s step up the pace, gentlemen, Rob would like to get this book to the publisher....?

(OK, yes, my ‘76’s re-paint took 2 1/2 years....?)

Regards,

Steve

Thanks for the kick in the ass. Summer is coming! Need to get this project ready!

Damn straight. It was blazing hot last summer in SoCal and it was not fun to drive the 02 in that heat. I did lose a few pounds every time I had to run errands though.
