'72-'73 Intermittant Wiper Upgrade

Hi Team

 

I have the E3/E9 dash switch and intermittent relay for this swap but not sure on their wiring... I have seen mention on other posts (when searching) of a wiring diagram that was getting shared around but I can't find a copy of it anywhere. Does anyone have it available?

Tell the class what year your car is. It makes a huge difference!

Sorry, mine is a '72  I assumed the wiring would be the same for both...

You need to run a couple (three I think) of new wires from the dash switch to the relay, then bypass/reroute one existing wire at the relay.  Mike Self wrote an article in the Roundel Magazine on this topic. He can chime in here and maybe send you a copy of it.

Thanks Jim. suddenly it sounds more complex than I assumed. I thought it would only be one wire or maybe two... it doesn't seem like many people know much about this mod which surprises me....

 

Is Mike Self aka "Mike" on here? I could pm him if so....

I bought this 20 years ago. The instructions melted. I think it came from Sherman Martinez. There’s is a wiring harness maybe from a Bavaria. Maybe these photos will help. Alex

Same kit I bought from Sherman around 2009.  You can see the (3) extra wires from the switch and the male spade terminal (near the relay) that accepts the factory female connector.

Mike, Help! Any articles on converting 3 wire wiper motors to 4 wire motors? My wipers function but the auto stop in the 1600 has failed ? Thanks Dave

Ok so I can see that the bottom peg on the switch goes to the "new" peg on relay. Thats a good start. I still have no idea where the other two wires go...I can see one has a male end and one a female end...Or where the wires that go to my current switch go. What is the factory female which you mention?

There are numbers and letters on the switch and relay.  Compare the switch posted with yours.
