Mystery line in the engine compartment.

Hodgepodge

Recommended Posts

It is still a little too cold to get out and work on the 2002, but I've been doing what I can with parts, etc.  There is a small, capped off hose in the engine compartment that I originally found just to the left (driver's side) of the radiator.  The line goes down to the frame rail and connects to a solid pipe, but I can't see where that goes.  I don't see it under the car but did not get all the way under there.   Is it the hard return for the gas tank?   The previous owner installed a Weber carb and disconnected a few things in the process, so that would be my first guess.

If it is the return vent line, it is still connected to the tank in the trunk.   Any suggestions on what to do with it?    I do still have the charcoal canister line and plan on keeping that.  I've read that some have converted it to the fuel supply line, but my blue plastic line is in good shape.  Ideas?

Thanks,

Scott

Yup that is what it appears to be and if thest of the smog plumbing is no longer there might as well get rid of it

I removed that steel line from my 75 when I cleaned up the bottom end. Before I did when I filled tank this line would fill up and my dangling rubber line in the engine bay like yours leaked. Not good

But if you decommision this make sure you have a good plug on the gas tank tube

Others know better and might urge you to maintain a return line. Probably a search of “ fuel return line” will give you a nights reading ?

Looks like the fuel return line to me too.  I plugged it at the gas tank end, and cut the engine side shorter so i can hide it under the battery.  I didn't bother completely removing it as I may wanna use it again or repurpose it at some point, if so i can just replace the rubber hoses.

Thanks for the quick responses.  I'll add this to the list of things to deal with.  It's a loooooong list.  :)

Like some others, I bought a Jeep fuel filter which has two outlets, one of which is a pressure bleed off, or functions as such, and plumbed it in.

No more Weber flooding after shut off.

Cheers,

Ray

Stop reading this! Don't you have anything better to do?? :P
Two running things. Two broken things.
