New-to-Me Issue- Hazard lights won't turn off...

So it's been a few weeks since I last had Brunhilde out. It's just been too darn cold, and they've been salting up at higher elevations that the commuters pull down the roads.

But anyway, when I parked her all was good, but I went down last week and the battery was stone-cold dead. Completely odd, as it's never had an issue with draining the battery even after months.

So I threw it on a trickle charger for the last 3 days and hooked it up tonight.

Lo-and-Behold, the Hazards were blinking once I connected it, and no amount of Harzard-button-pushing can get them to toggle off. All I can think is that at some point in the last few cold weeks the switch got sprung on it's own and is now permanently on?

I did some quick googling and can't find any other posts with such issues, anybody else had this happen?

It's always something... But I'll be under the car in the morning doing brakes anyway, so I can digg into it.

Yep, Dave, I believe you're on the issue. Whatever the mechanism is inside of it that keeps it stuck down and off musta' cut loose on it's own... How much did your button set ya back? I'm more inclined to disassemble what I got thou and see if I can fix it, but I'm not at all excited about pulling apart my center console for the upteenth time.

I had this issue when I first got my car.  You can do a quick fix with a little piece of rolled up paper or thin toothpick or something.  I ended up doing this fix:

That's the ticket! I knew my new issue wouldn't be so new to someone :) Thanks Mataku! looks like I got me another weekend project :)

That's what I tried with mine, but it wouldn't stay working consistently...  I think Blunt got me a switch in the $85 range, I think.

And I totally drove mine around for a couple of months with some thick paper wedged in it to keep it off...  Toothpick is a great idea.

Dave.

'76, totally stock. Completely.
