Replacing turbo exhaust manifold - options?

Note that this is 4290001 and there are a few differences between this car and the rest of the production run:

White painted rear spoiler.

Turbo script and Roundel on rear spoiler

No air duct for Turbo cooling in front spoiler.

Different boost gauge with markings.

There are a number of other small differences that you can't see in this brochure.

Yes they are stainless and yes you can weld them IF you preheat and cool in a controlled environment.

AFAIK they are NLA .. if BMW makes a bunch (they do that once in a while, I was able to source an OEM muffler a few years back that showed out of stock for some time) I would buy a shelf spare.

I found a guy in Germany who claims to be reproducing the manifold...so far i only see a CAD drawing, but he promises photos of the real thing soon...

I am very interested, I have a customer that is in need of a replacement manifold,  His is too far gone to repair.  I have a spare NOS manifold (in case I need it)  but it's not for sale.

On another thread, it seems there's a Bulgarian company that's selling a manifold 'modelled upon' the original factory design with the addition of a wastegate flange:

2000_61337907cbdbb.jpg

Price for the manifold looks good, the shipping costs seem a bit crazy (I guess it's cast iron, but still a cheaper/slower option would be nice)

It was hilited in this thread:

https://www.bmw2002faq.com/forums/topic/295028-turbo-charging-the-m10/

I don't know if it's dimensionally correct, and I guess we would have to blank the wastegate flange & it wouldn't be so visible. Potentially a good functional replacement if not concours correct.....

Edit: I emailed them and they say "99% same as original one", the mounting holes are M8, we would need to drill out to M10, and they ship it with a blanking plate for the wastegate flange.

I have purchased 4 of these in an effort to mitigate the shipping charge which is rather stiff as someone said. so I will have 3 surplus available FOB Texas at USD 500 each. Since we don't know what customs will charge until we get them, this price may be adjusted accordingly when we get the customs invoice. Interested parties send me a pm or even better an email to russ at vh(thenumber2)q d0t c0m

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
