Description:

Hello.

Unfortunately, I am selling my beloved 1976 BMW 2002.

The car was a California car for nearly all it's life (Sans the past 2 years) and has minimal rust. The car runs amazingly well, good compression, good starts, no leaks.

The car was mostly restored by Bavarian Rennsport in San Diego CA, and I have all of the digital documentation from them to prove it.

Since I have owned it, I have replaced the original steering wheel with a nice Nardi, replaced the valve cover gasket, and had the clutch slave, clutch master, and master brake cylinders all replaced, as well as routine maintenance completed at Terry Sayther's BMW in Austin Texas, and have paperwork for that work as well. The top half of the engine had a complete rebuild while at Bavarian Rennsport, and the interior has been totally restored. The car has a very high quality paint job nearly identical to the original Anthracite Grey color, with some metallic flaking added. And it looks incredible. Also has the euro bumper conversion. New struts and shocks. The seats have been replaces with more sporty E30 seats, and reupholstered to match everything. The transmission and engine are matching numbers. The sunroof is also fully functional. Also had the rear brake shoes replaced recently. ODO reads 50,186 likely rolled over.

Everything in the car works, the blinkers, the wipers, all the gauges, all lights, the tape deck, radio, and speakers. All locks, and windows also work as well. Recent new weather stripping.

The only troubled rust area is surface rust in the spare tire well, which could easily be taken care of. While at Terry Saythers I constantly got comments on how rust free and restored it is. Other comments when the brake shoes were replaced were "This car is basically fully restored. It's in amazing condition."

This car gets compliments and turns heads literally everywhere I go.

It has basically been my daily driver and it has never not started, and ran like a champ the entire time.

This is a fantastic, rare car that I love dearly, and while I hate to see it go it's not in the cards right now. I am in no rush to sell, so please no low ballers.

Will come with extras such as a recreated handbook, a 2002 restoration guide, the original steering wheel if wanted and a myriad of tools/upkeep chemicals for the car if desired including a jack and jack stands.

Title has a lien, simple acquisition process.

Thanks,

-Jed

Would prefer local pick up but will work with a delivery service.

I saw this car on numerous occasions while it was being worked on at Bavarian Rennsport in Ramona.  Although a beautiful paint job, it was not a factory color, specifically not Anthracite grey.  Bill Holmes said it was painted in Mexico.  The car may have come from the factory in Anthracite (VIN Number to the BMW Archive will provide this information), but this is a very custom color, with olive/brown tones.

GLWS,

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
