1974 Tii Parts Car

Price: $3600
Location: Huntington Beach, CA

Description:

Hey guys,

I have this tii that is great for parts, but not great for restoration. I bought this car thinking it would be a good supplemental tii to my other tii project, but I don't actually need it, nor do I want to start ripping parts off of it.

What I know about the car:

Clean title, hasn't ran since '95, originally a Seattle, WA car. Currently all suspension and drivetrain is in tact and has been untouched. The engine VIN does not match the chassis VIN, but everything is there otherwise. Car has a four speed and stock 3.64 diff. Aside from the gratuitous rust on the chassis, all suspension components are not rusty, probably due to the years and years of grease, caked underneath - This is a good thing.

As per the photos, the only thing that does not come with the car is the steering wheel. This is my personal steering wheel and I threw it in so I could steer the car. Everything else comes with the car and is fair game.

Asking price is $3600

Couple of updates: I'm going to get this car running.

Started off by removing the valve cover and checking underneath. Everything seems kosher and is tight (but not too tight). I threw on a tii valve cover that I had on a shelf.

Next was to turn the engine by hand. I removed the plugs to drop the compression, and the crank turned smooth as butter, via the fan. The plugs look new, fouled, and incorrect, but this is a good sign. I'll be swapping to the correct plugs.

Found a good donor coil, cap, rotor, and set of plug wires as well. Those are going on now. I don't understand condensors and points, so I'll do some reading.

I don't have a spare battery in the garage, so I'll go to another parts car and snake one from there. I wanted to check the gas tank for gas/corrosion, so I removed the in-tank fuel sender and shined a light inside. The tank is VERY clean, but dry - no gas. I'll remove the tank, clean out, throw some new gas in there, and once ready, fire the ignition and see what happens. Based on oil and coolant, everything looks good and she should fire. This would be good.

As I said before, the chassis is trashed. I wouldn't use it for much. I think both fenders are nice though. They have been replaced and are not corroded.

Wish me luck.

You Californians are so spoiled!

That looks pretty good to me.  I saw worse '02 rust in Pennsylvania by 1973...

Good luck with the start-up.  Oddly, I feel Ike a 40-year-old tii stands a better chance of starting than a 40-year-old carbed example! ?

Best regards,

Steve

Appears re-chassisied 74 sienabraun tii's are worth a lot more than one would think.

Looks like I'm going to part this car out instead.

I got the fuel pump to fire, and the car cranks over fine, but I don't have the coil hooked up yet. Good news is the fuel pump works fine, is pushing fuel to the kfish, but the fuel hoses have deteriorated too badly.

Also I think I just sold the fuel pump and drive shaft from this car.

Watch out carefully for the fuel hoses esp the one to the warm up regulator. My $1500 Atlantic City Chamonix was brought back to life (and ran like stink hitting 80 mph indicated in 2nd still pulling) but that hose split and was peeing all over the engine....

Is fuel efficiency really what we need most desperately? I say what we really need is a car that can be shot when it breaks down.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
