Canada to US import

Has anyone imported a car from Canada to the US lately? Curious about the,required drill.

I have not but I'm sure if your importing to Ca it'll be a royal pain in the arse.

Getting the car into the US is the easy part.  Just call customs and they will spell out what you need. Our cars are old enough the US DOT does not care about any of the safety or smog regulations from that era. You will need a certified bill of sale, and you will pay a import duty based on the value of the car and that is just about it.    HOWEVER some states still require emission inspections on cars more than 25 years old.  If you are trying to bring a 1976 2002 into the country, no problem.  If you are trying to bring that car into CA and license it you will need all of the US smog equipment installed and working.

I did it a year ago, bill of sale, no DOT check. Had to pay the duty even though my car was orinally sold in Seattle! They charged me on low bluebook, which was $250. I live in Oregon so no smog on a ‘72. Title transfer and registration $90.
