Road trip
Would anyone know if the 1972 Europa radio is what’s know as single DIN ?
Simeon
No, it is a 'spindle mount' which had a range of standards whereas the DIN size is a single standard which is in use today for modern stereos.
esty
Simeon, i disagree...the older becker body is mounted in a standard DIN case even though the face is shaft style/push button operation...one DIN size opening works

Tsingtao_1903
Not sure if you can without some work. Modern car radios single DIN or not have standard plugs combining power, switch power, front/back speaker wires... that plug directly to the back. The Becker Europas have separate speaker wires with special plugs and power wire going into the back. I had a modern radio that I removed and had to redo the power & speaker wires to connect to the Becker.

Simeon
Well, there you go. I guess it seems obvious that the German radios may comply with a German standard, even if the rest of the industry went their own way.
HBChris
Europas with spindle/shaft mount exist but are extremely hard to find nowadays as opposed to Blaupunkts which were shaft mount.
