Not to be mis-understood.  I love old Jags and most other British sports cars.  My first, second and third cars were Triumph TR2, TR3, and TR3a.

The funniest and most morbid story of Lucas:

An episode of Madmen where an ad exec has lost everything and is planning to commit suicide.  He puts a hose in his XKE tailpipe, feeds it into the car and turns on the ignition.  The car won't start.

That Jag is a 2 + 2 with a hinged rear hatch, like this one:

They all have hinged rear hatches, the red one above is not a 2+2, Steven’s is a 2+2 though.

I had a '69 E-Type OTS (open two seater) and drove it all the time, sometimes even in mild rain.  The engineering was ahead of its time and it was an awesome car to drive, but I wouldn't take it out of town very often.  A 2002 or an E9 coupe is so reliable that you never think about that kind of stuff and it just makes your drive that much more fun.  The E-Type is probably the only car I ever regret selling though, except for the other four E9's I had.  ;)

Lucas, the prince of Darkness :P  (I used to have a bug eye sprite).

I still have a Bugeye, and strangely enough, despite all the Lucas jokes, I've never had any problems at all with the car's electrical system.  Maybe I got the good one!

I'd really love to hear more about the comparison between the E and the 2002.  I have recently been looking at them but for some reason I figured getting into the XKE through a 30K initial investment is not the best idea.

That depends on how handy you are and where you live.  The coupes are way less expensive than the OTS   There are some really cheap ones here: (outside of LA)

And sometimes here: (Outside of NYC)

Or sometimes here:   (Also outside of NYC)

Good luck!

I can start my 02 in any weather any time and go whereever i want, i've even driven it in snow with cable chains, try that with a british sports car.   old addage "work on 'em all week so you can drive on the week end".  I owned a few but like quitting smoking, it took a few tries to get past them.

Risking the venom of all wives/girlfriends... next time you see a smokin’ hot girl, ask your wife “Hey that girl is gorgeous, can I get one of those too!”

In my defense, I said “too” not “instead”... mmmmm... I feel an off-topic post forming about multiple car and multiple wife ownership... oh my god... wrong word!

Gotta go... heading into Whole Foods to buy flowers for my wife!  The credit card bill came last night with the new Innova timing light charge and $300 Driveline of N Atlanta rebuild charge ???

Here we go: My favorite Lucas joke.

Lucas decided to diversify its product line and make vacuum cleaners.

It is the only product they can make that doesn't suck...

Loose: Not tightly bound. Subject to motion.
Lose: What happens when you are spell check dependent.

1975 Malaga. It is rusty but runs. Just like me.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
