replacing the clock with a tach

i am also trying to install a tach into my 69 1602 ... it came with a clock 

there does NOT appear to be a a 'tach wire' from the dist/coil to the cluster ...

 

based on some wiring diagrams i found ... it looks like only the 2002 TI came with a tach at that time

 

should be easy enough to add one ... 

0.75mm wire = 18ga

 

i even have a terminal just waiting for me to attach to!

There seems to be three different answers, in this post, to this question.

The first diagram shows the middle terminal attached to the back of the cluster.

The picture following that has what I have for a replacement cluster.

The second diagram has the Tach wire coming from the #15 terminal of the coil.

Then this last one has that wire coming from the #1 terminal on coil.

 

I ran a wire to the tach like the above diagram (#1 term.) and I still got no Tach.

I don't give a fird gen, carbretted, alyoominiuhm, tickity boo!... wiff an ole in the boot!

Whoever diagramed the tach signal wire to come from terminal 15 had no foggy idea what makes the tach work.  It needs a pulsing signal to count and show the speed.  Terminal 15 is a 12v power source to the coil.  Terminal 1 is correct, see, it ultimately connects to the points that grounds the circuit and provides the pulse.

Problem solved today!

Turns out a short in the wiper pump relay was ruining everything.

Once I cut out that circuit from the elaborate green/blue network...everything works.

My turn signal problem is the hazard relay switch not supplying power to the flasher relay (think the flasher relay is bad too.)

I don't give a fird gen, carbretted, alyoominiuhm, tickity boo!... wiff an ole in the boot!
