No way I'm cutting my pristine door cards.

My buddy is not wasting any time. Car now sprayed with 4 coats of Super Build 4:1 primer. Many hours of block sanding ahead...

This project is really coming along in a very timely manner!
I must thank you.
Your updates are a real inspiration.
The last few that you've posted have literally made me go right to working on mine.
The seemingly endless amount of sanding is very de-motivating step... I figure about 5 or 6 more of your progress reports and I should be able to move onto the next phase.
So thank you sir!

Just while i think of it, be careful when reattaching hood to hinges and adjusting the support brackets. If the hood is misaligned, it can snag edge of front cowl as it opens. Very tricky. Just go VERY slowly. The support bracket bolts on the fender tops affect the way it opens more than you might think.

I basically learned to weld on this car; but I couldn't begin to learn bodyman skills and expect anything good to come of it.  Mitch is doing all the body work/prep/and paint.  All I'm doing is writing the check...   After seeing his previous work, I can rest-assured that the CS will look amazing when he's done.

Dropped off the hood and deck lid this morning. Mitch had shot top primer last night to give himself a color change to block against.

Still plenty to do, but so impressed how he's gone all-in on the car. Many hours, every day. I can't thank him enough.

Mitch busy in the salt mines again today. Deck lid was in terrible shape, thankfully, the hood was better.

Doors temporarily rehung to block sand and match body lines. Papa provides inspection :)

Welded a new battery tray in and the front jack points, as well.

Lots of blocking to go, but every day is another step closer.

Vern's at the same stage...seems like time is standing still while they block and sand.

Everything on the CS is looking straight and lining up very well. Keep up the good work.

Thanks all... Mitch caught the flu, so we are in a holding pattern.  I have my own rat-killing to finish on the car, but I think we'll be back on task soon enough.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
