Anyone familiar with this one on BAT?

Price: $1

Description:

So I was looking at the 1974 Estoril Blue on the east coast, but the consignment seller was non-responsive to several inquiries so I gave up on that one.

I have been following this one on BAT, and if it goes for <$15k I am thinking it is a decent deal (and local).  Not sure how the car got rusty being a CA car, but that said, has anyone seen this car, or have any thoughts on it?  Thanks in advance.

I think the seller might have been able to do a little better job "marketing" (more detailed pictures, maybe even a video).  I talked to him and he is very nice and mentioned a few other things that weren't in the BAT add; such as the pre-74 dashes are hard to find/replace.  As for the front end clip replacement, IMO that was a long time ago; if there were issues with it, I think they would have manifested themselves by now.

I also realize a lot of people probably just spray the spare wheel well and underbody to hide the rust; but seeing it makes me think about it a little too much

Regardless a very nice car, but I little out of my reach at this time.

Unless the pictures are off- this car looks very similar to my 73. The paint color seems brighter than true Malaga.  In fact, the color looks almost exactly like mine (Ford Ruby Red).   I viewed the bidding and comments today during lunch. Would be interesting to see how my car would match up to this one if I ever decided to sell it (nose replacement on my tii doesn't have a snorkel).  What I really love about my car is you can get in and drive it anywhere.  Rock chips and minor paint bubbles are present, but I love ❤️ it.

  • 2 weeks later...

I did sell the car for my reserve of $25K. Several people PMed me and one guy showed up early on the last day of the auction, looked at it and we went for a long drive - he loved it (what's not to love?!?)

He bought it not long after the auction had ended. He got a very nice tii.

I've never marketed a car of this caliber. Had her for 23 years, put a ton of work into her, was surprised at some of the troll like comments that were made, maybe I could have marketed her better but I thought I had covered all bases.. but oh well. I disclosed everything....

She will be missed!

Truth be told, I have my eyes opened for a (straight bodied) 02 that I can use as a daily driver, can drive in the rain...will be fun.

74 2002 tii (verona) 2023 - probably forever

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
