Would like to buy new left and right doors for a 74 2002.  Checked with BMW South Atlanta - none show to be in stock in US or Germany, but doors are not listed as no longer available.

I just talked to someone at 2002AD.  He said they can get the doors - new OE.  I told him two other sources said they were not available, although not yet discontinued by BMW.  He checked and said he could get them with shipping in a little over a week - the price is a premium, I ordered them - I'll see what happens.

If you can pick up some complete doors for $400 from Karnut1 that are in good shape I would go for it. Rogerstii has them for sale also. Used doors for $379.95 each and new doors for $525 each.  I have picked up some random parts from these guys and they ship fairly quickly and I have been happy with everything. Here is the link to the doors.  http://www.rogerstii.com/bmw-2002-door-shell-1971-1976/

Have you checked the part numbers for both early (non-reinforced) and late (USA reinforced) doors?

super early doors without crash beams: 41 51 6 402 100 left 101 right (supersedes to the following numbers below: 045 / 046)

early / Euro doors without crash beams: 41 51 1 841 045 left 046 right

USA doors with crash beams: 41 51 1 422 783 left 784 right

BMW tends to only remanufacture parts as sold to their home market (ie: EUROPEAN) so the USA numbers may be gone for good, but the Euro spec parts might be available. Have your parts vendor check all these numbers.

Also - occasionally BMW will revive an old number (such as the 100 / 101 doors) from their ancient catalog listing, instead of the newer / superseded numbers.)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
