I get to DRIVE the 02 today!!!! It's been almost two weeks! Man, I've had serious withdrawal symptoms.

After Solo Nats, I had an attack of sciatica -- a first for me, Yay! -- and I've been virtually incapacitated. But today I'm feeling good enough to do some errands. And I did a "test fit" in the 02 to see how my sore parts work in the seat. That seemed OK.

So ... I'm about to fire her up and head out.

Oh no! Sciatica is no joke, a good friend gets Sciatica attacks atleast twice a year that sometimes put him in the emergency room. Be careful how quickly you think you can go back to normal things, one wrong bend or twist and you could be right back in bed.

Thanks guys! I'm trying to be very careful. I start PT soon, and I'm now doing some MD-recommended stretches, which help a lot. So I'm optimistic! I have an autocross Sunday that I may have to cancel out of. But that's OK. The big goal for me is to be ready and able to run the Lake Garnett Grand Prix Revival, Oct. 12 and 13. That's the highlight of my motorsports year.

Oh, and as an aside, I'm back from my drive now. And driving the car felt fine! Yay!

I don't think your PT doctor is going to like the sound of autocross for a new patient. That's a lot of g-forces.

What did I do to my 02 today? Adjusted the bloody alternator and fan belt, been driving it to work 3 days a week and loving it!
However I’ve been hit quite hard with dumb stick this past week, I noticed the car getting nearer and nearer the red overheating mark on the gauge, its even worse at speed, makes no sense! (This is when it should have clicked the belt was slipping) I’ve been busy either at work or building an extension on the house, so I’ve had zero time to do any investigation, unfortunately it’s yearly roadworthy cert was due so I rushed down last minute and got it done, when I left it wouldn’t start so we used a battery pack to get it going and I stopped off at the battery shop on the way home just to check, it was charging at 12v, no wonder the battery was drained, anyway being the time poor idiot I am I assumed the worse and tried to find an alternator, being a Tii that’s no easy thing especially in Aus, so imagine my surprise when a local bmw guy had one, he’s an enthusiast as well, so I bought it and some brass bushes from Jaymic….but I had the nagging thought that I never buy without investigating, while waiting for the parts to arrive it dawned on me I havent done any maintenance because I’m so busy…. Imagine how stupid I felt when I checked the tension on the fan belt, luckily my battery tray is removable and I have one of the e30 style adjusters on my Tii, loosen a couple of nuts turn the adjuster and it walks up the arm, job done, though I defo need a new belt it’s at the end of adjustment, quick check with a mult meter tells me all’s well in terms of charging as well.

still a 2nd alternator for a Tii in Aus is a good thing not exactly tripping over them, well perhaps at my house. Lesson learnt check, and double check don’t assume🙄

I always tell people to follow the KISS rule Keep It Simple Stupid!

Start by checking the fuse box then do a thorough visual inspection and prod and wiggle tests.

That’s no joke, glad driving went okay. I’ve fought in those trenches and it sucks. First back surgery in my 20s, another one a few years ago…think I was 40. The first time around I could barely walk for a year.  Now thanks to permanent nerve damage, I have zero pain. 🤷‍♂️  Hope yours clears up.

Ive been dealing with dirty fuel since the car came back from paint.  Today I pulled the tank, cleaned it out thoroughly with acetone (and drywall screws), put new weatherstrip on the mounting lip, and reinstalled. I’ll reconnect the lines and put in a new filter tomorrow, but that should hopefully be the last of my drivability issues. Now all that’s left is some random punch list items and it’ll be all finished.

Pics eventually but over the weekend I tried to figure out where a little coolant that spilled out came from and decided it was the overflow hose.  Likely a little too much coolant after a replacement water pump was installed.  A spirited test drive and everything remained sealed up.

While not idling perfectly, the odd backfiring/stumbling I recently encountered has abated.  Will drive more and see if it comes back.

Finally started replacing my terrible and sad old door cards with aftermarket. Also need to finally install the seat belts that I obtained from Al before the last MidAmerica.

New spark plugs and new seatbelts today, then filled the tank and put a few miles on it!

Next will be balancing and tuning the Weber Carbs

Hi guys, we're not seeing much for recent sales of new or used seals.

  • Genuine BMW Sealing Frame, Left: 63-21-1-356-941 / 63211356941 (Available from dealer, MSRP: $ 105.83)
  • Genuine BMW Sealing Frame, Right: 63-21-1-356-942 / 63211356942 (No Longer Available)

Unfortunately it doesn't look like there's enough demand to justify the tooling cost, but thanks for the suggestion!

Uh, don't look to eBay for all of your market research.  Nobody is buying them because the ones for sale are either genuine BMW (too expensive) or they are just as dry, beaten and cracked as the ones most of us already have. They are also often just sold with the chrome trim and not sold separately because they are too old, dry, cracked...to sell separately.
