What did you do to your 2002 today !

Recommended Posts

It wasn't today; it was about a week ago.  And I didn't do anything other than write a check, but I got some annoying usability issues taken care of (door lock slipped down when I shut the door, signals didn't work when the lights were on) and also some bonus stuff (filler in the trunk and custom strut brace).  My kids are stoked to get to ride in the "Orange" car as they call it now that I have rear belts.

I just had another brilliant idea.. I will package these $.93 parts in a bag, put a BMW logo on it and charge $47.50......

If you buy new seat belts from bluedevils, you get these nifty slidey clippy things for free! ?

Hey Ray_ - New belts is on my short list for sure and I have had my "neighbor" as a source. I just got my car on the road again and although they LOOK fine, I am sure 43 year old belt webbing has seen better days.

And 2002cool2 - Nice corral of cars!! When does one officially have too many? I guess when you keep turning around and bumping into one that you say, "Oh, I better start on this one". :)

Finally got the seats recovered. Tried to honor the original silver/light grey interior , but it’s a little off. Oh well, maybe time to redo or the door cards.

Hats off to Freddie’s Upholstery in S. San Francisco. He did a terrific job.

What I did to my 2002 today...neglected it.

Project push. Got the carbs rebuilt on the Alfa, then needed to do a starter on my sons 320is. Trying to clean up the nursery before the M3 comes back from paint (maybe this week!). Oh, then the cluch on the Mini is about done.

Somewhere in this mess is a completely disassembled tii motor to get machined and put back together.

Drove it! Man that thing pulls hard past 7K!

Someone has to teach me how to set up acceleration enrichment in Tunerstudio. Other than that it’s running great!

I’ve gone and done it again.. this will be the 4th time I’m removing the radiator in the past month or so. This time I did exactly what ray warned against doing, my condenser is currently upside down in the car and everything is mounted.

Also, does anyone have a recommendation on how to install the early tii clock? I know how I’m supposed to do it and it is already removed and repaired, but I haven’t been able to get the plastic screw things to attach to the clocks studs in the limited space

Been there...then I made a simple tool.  And I put something on the dash to keep the clock from falling out forward while working under the dash.

Hopefully the following picture tells the story.

Thanks for the help, that seems like it should work, slowly threading it with one finger is how I got it off anyway

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
