You know the drill- rain tray clogs up with debris and it turns to damp soil. Heater box seal fails and the firewall padding keeps it wet on the inside... ugh.

Fortunatey for this car I happen to have a good firewall from which to harvest the repair sections from. It just sucks that I’ve had to take the car down this far. I couldn’t leave the rot in good conceince though. So here we go!

I kept digging into the history of my 1971 2002tii and found the link to Europe. This is from the 1998 June Roundel magazine classified section. Thanks to the email listed (long inactive) I was able to find the man based off of his previous work history at NASA. I am getting close to completing the ownership chain, I was told the car came over to the US as a 1 owner vehicle. More to come.

Interesting side note, in 1998 at the time of this classified ad you could buy a sub-100k e30 M3 for the same price as a well sorted 2002tii... wonder which was a better purchase in terms of the values today.

My wife ask me the same question...

I’m holding the line at four we currently have five.

My plan is to keep four two Tiis, Turkish auto, and the baur.

Decided to put the funds into redoing a Tii in lieu of a base 73 riviera blue / black car I have, that car will be for sale in the future...

Replaced the drive shaft center support bearing that came off the rubber. Center driveshaft bearing crapped out (M42)

Had to remove the driveshaft and found that the guy that installed the guibo had the bolts backwards, did not preload the CSB and did not align the markings on the front and rear side of the shaft. Asshole. I'm not sure if I can feel the difference, but I feel much better now that everything is done correctly.  This was a 2 hour job with a 6 pack paid helper.

Made it to Cars and Coffee Los Angeles at the new home at William Mulholland Memorial Fountain.  Nice to see some friends this morning.  There were at least 8 02s that I saw. There were lots of friendly people asking a ton of questions.  Glad I decided to go.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
