What did you do to your 2002 today !

Picked up a new tire this morning.  I ran over a screw 25 miles from home on my way back from the vintage.  Went for a drive to Cars & Coffee in Gastonia.  Really light turnout, so I took off out into the country for a nice relaxing drive.

Did a 140+ Part Puzzle only to recognize my rebuilt driveshafts won't fit my NOS Rear Wheel shafts.

I remember having read something about that but I cannot recall where that was and what was the consensus.

It's the small centering stud or bore that prevents them from mating.

Now I have to decide whether I'll machine the wheel axles or the driveshafts.

FInally got around to swapping in 34mm chokes and binning my 32's I've had sitting in my DCOEs since my old motor...

Was worried I'd have to do some crazy re-jetting nonsense, since I've been fiddling forever and even micro-steps in jets ended up with scenarios of too rich, or too lean.

Mighta' just found my goldilocks combo thou!

DIdn't touch a thing other than the chokes. Now she somehow idles better/smoother/leaner, AFR's are markedly improved across the rev-range, and she drives better than ever. Took her for test-run on the autobahn, looked down and she was happily just drummin' away at 160kph and barely breaking a sweat.

Who'da thunk. Guess she just wanted to breathe deeper!

My Recaros and rear seat upholstery came in from Thailand on Thursday!  Ordered the Aardvark mounting rails yesterday.  I also had some vinyl dye custom matched to the seats from a local paint shop yesterday.  I plan to dye the door cards and rear seat cards to match the seats.

Wow.  Beautiful!  Is that Riveria?  Did you just get it matched or is there a certain paint code that the painters need?  I’m just in the primer stage now,  but also Riviera.  Also,  what are you using to sand ballast aluminum parts?

Had the pleasure of driving to Bimmerfest 2019 yesterday with 8 other 02s.  Bimmerfest is held at the speedway in Fontana Ca for those not familiar with the event.  I figured I'd answer Ray's question before he asked it :)

This is not a vintage event but they do have an area for the vintage cars.  I talked to many many people answering all sort of questions.  I talked to two guys who came from Guatemala to attend the event.  They are even thinking of coming back to attend SoCal vintage.  For them, a big turn out of 02s would be around 15 cars.  I could do without the young crowd with their fancy rims and loud exhausts.  Getting to drive with some great guys and talking to so many friendly people made up for it.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
