Polaris ‘68

partial right side rocker removed, football sides mouse nest removed from A pillar, new rocker fitted and 2/3rds welded. Inner rocker looked great with only very minor surface rusting in a few spots.

Polished Octavo 100s? Those look great!

I changed from 15” to 13” wheels last year and have been very happy with how the car drives.

292 cam with 40’s I believe the compression is 10:1

I’m  also going to install Top End Performance ignition system on this build, see how it runs. Thanks

I am genuinely surprised how nicely the car drives on 13" wheels, it's been quite a few years since I have used them.

They work very well with the eibachs and bilsteins, very happy Chappy!?

Warning: somewhat emo post.

My 1969, Dolores, is on ice. I canceled the insurance and moved it to the garage this week as it’s about to be stripped for full restoration and a returned to its native Atlantik Blau.

I left the new Verona ‘75, Rolf, at home in the driveway after a decent week of daily driving.

Instead, I worked on the 1965 Imp today at the garage with my garagemate, Seth. We have been making early mornings at the garage a ritual last few weeks as I try to stop myself from drinking too much at night.

We are trying to sort an issue of the engine wanting to die when in gear and under any sort of load. It idles cleanly and can rev like a 998cc Coventry Climax engine should when in neutral, but we have to ride the clutch when in gear or else it wants to die with any load applied. We now think is the electronic ignition thing... there’s a knowledgeable and friendly ‘North American Impers’ FB group we’ve been asking for help... apparently there’s only 50 imps in the US.

But in the meantime, we replaced the Imp’s single barrel Solex carb with an almost new one in case the issue was a clogged jet not able to spray more fuel when under load.

The carb worked after a little fuel priming and we could idle and rev fine in neutral, but the same issue persisted when we tried to put it in reverse.

We left the garage at noon without a solution, as it was already hot in Sylmar and Seth had a marriage counseling appointment. He’s also had a rough couple of weeks.

Funny how in our mid 30s, both in technology jobs, we find ourselves turning to the therapy of working with our hands on cars our fathers’ age, fighting the same demons our fathers and grandfathers warned us about.

Simple, mostly analog, problems feel tangible and solvable. Thank God for weekends, air, fuel and spark and their healing properties.

Here’s a few requested photos of the 1965 Sunbeam Imp LHD from Kentucky, Rose Marie, as she sits. And a couple of inspiration shots of where we will take her.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
