Early motor mount

If anyone is interested I found the early style motor mount on eBay. If you think it's expensive, imagine how I felt when I converted it to cdn dollars.

your good news for sunday is that these have been remanufactured by BMW and are available new:

And just yesterday I ordered that same one from IE in rubber. I almost pulled the trigger on the poly one for the driver side. Glad I got it in rubber instead.

I think we're talking about two different parts.  The one Naz posted is the early NK driver's side mount, part number 11 81 0 696 105 shown as NLA on most sites.  I bought one from Joachim at BTS autotiele recently for about $100 USD plus shipping.  He was the only source I could find.

The one Nick shows is the passenger side, part number 11 81 1 104 588.

I've found another issue as well when searching for early NK parts.  I have a factory parts manual from 1967 and it appears that at some point BMW redid their numbers.  Often when I use a number from the '67 manual it draws a blank.  If I use a number from realoem using my 1800 build date (March 1965) it works on most sites.  Hope this helps.

When my d/s mount failed I bought the IE poly -  increased vibration slightly and eventually I had to have the metal re-welded. Worth doing IMHO cause any NOS rubber you might find would be compromised from age - it's been years since BMW made them.

IE told me they had no plans to reproduce in rubber but maybe they changed their minds?

I understand what your saying re: old rubber degrading over time. If it fails I can always go the poly way. I'm trying to stay away from all the poly stuff unless I'm left with no other choice. I'm looking for the least amount of vibration out of this thing. Vibration always makes me feel like something's wrong with the car and then I'll be chasing the cause and driving myself crazy.

Did you reinforce the metal with another piece of steel where the mount is connected?

Sure, if you remember 3 weeks from now to take a pic I'd love to see it.

Here is the ever elusive early style rubber motor mount in its final resting place waiting to live out the rest of its days being hammered upon by constant engine vibration. 24e229995c03b4287278d69247e92537.jpg

I can see why this was later redesigned.

Indeed it works great - and is well worth having a bit more vibration for the Increased strength. Having a motor mount fail while doing 65 mph in bumper-to-bumper traffic on I-5 is not my idea of a good time...

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
