Price: $5750
Location: Portland, Oregon, USA

Description:

Well, I'm finally selling my much-loved, well-sorted daily driver with a recently rebuilt engine that I purchased in California in 2011 after somebody listed it on this very forum.

It has been regularly maintained at Boyd Motor Werks in Portland.

It has a chamonix exterior and blue interior with a 4 speed manual transmission and a rare aftermarket Britax ragtop sunroof.

I have over $20,000 in receipts of work done in the last 7 years.

The car also has an Alpine stereo with bluetooth and iPhone USB connector, an amplifier under the rear seat and 4 Focal speakers, two of which are hidden under the rear parcel tray beneath speaker fabric.

Major service history:

2010
Glass-out repaint by Moran Motosport with new rubber window seals and chrome trim.
Total cost: $10,000+

2011 - I purchased the car
Converted to electric fan/relay kit
New clutch master cylinder
Heater box, heater core completely rebuilt

2012
Replaced strut mounts, tie rods and ball joints
Rear brakes rebuilt

2013
New tires - Bridgestone Potenza G3, lots of tread still left
New Interstate battery
Engine completely rebuilt by Boyd Motor Werks with 38/38 Weber carb and Schrick high performance 292 camshaft
Fuel tank sending unit replaced

2014
New alternator
New driveshaft support center bearing
New spark plugs
Replaced drive shaft

2015
New clutch master cylinder
Replaced 4spd transmission (previous one had a crack that was leaking)
Front floor plans replaced
Under-carpet sound deadening installed
New carpet
New coconut-fiber floor mats

2017
New wheel bearings
New front brakes
New aluminum radiator
New IE silicon hose set

The car sits a little lower than stock on Bilstein shocks.

I have the title in hand but it is a reconstructed title. I believe a previous owner was in an accident and the settlement money was used to fund the 2010 repaint. Seven years later the paint is good but not perfect. Staining around gas cap. The paint in the engine bay is rough. The only sign of an accident is the passenger side frame rail (non-structural, beneath where the passenger's feet would be) is bent upward by about an inch. It was professionally inspected when I bought the car in 2011 and declared to be ok.

Shock towers don't have rust, but here's where you will find it:

Lower driver's side door, in the bottom corner.
Spare tire wheel well (very small amount)

There was rust around the heater box and the passenger-side front wheel well. The rust was removed, cleaned with POR-15, painted, and repaired with JB-weld patches where there were pinholes).

Odometer is not currently running.

While this is a fun car to work on and drive, my family has grown and it isn't getting the attention it deserves anymore. It's also not a great car to drive in the rain because the water sometimes gets in around the front speakers and occasionally from the sunroof.

Let me know if you have any questions! I'm hoping it will go to somebody who will love and enjoy it as much as I have.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
