WN Pistons Second Overbore?

Second will work as we are at the first now. But without the picture of the box with the serial number I wasn't sure if these were second.

Yes, second oversize may well work, but it really depends on the condition of your engine's bores.  If second oversize is too small for the cleaned up bores, you'll either need a larger set of pistons, or sleeving.  You may have already expertly measured and evaluated your block, but if you haven't...

Steve

Agree with Conserv... I just had my newly-purchased Tii's  engine completely rebuilt (blowing clouds of smoke, 2 qts oil in 400 miles, etc)... They found that the last rebuilder had used undersized pistons (89.97mm), so I was losing oil through the rings, not the valve seals as is usual.  I don't know how many times the bores were polished, but I ended up with special-order Mahle pistons with 90.15mm diameter, so have an engine shop measure your bores first.

Yes. Measure your block. It's not always the pistons. My engine was blowing smoke and burning oil. Top end had been rebuilt so we figured it was the rings. Once we got the pistons out the ring lands were way over spec and the rings were not properly seated. Turns out the block was still within spec. So a quick honing of the block and new pistons of the same size with new rings and the engine is as good as new!  Along with rod bearings oil pump refresh and all the other good stuff lol. Point is, going to the next size isn't always required.

Thank you all for the feedback. I really appreciate it as this is my first time tearing a motor down. Machinist measured the block after tear down. He has indicated that we need a second overbore piston due to the wear and a one over is in now. He is pulling specs from the blue book I believe. I am confirming the size today when I stop by to drop off some parts and take a look at the head and will confirm we are on the same page with all this additional information. WN did confirm second oversize and 9.5:1 compression.

Oil pump, bearings, water pump (have to find a tii pump or rebuild kit if there is such a beast), full head rebuild, kfish testing/rebuild, injectors tested rebuilt/replaced...it's all getting refreshed. I have the throttle body disassembled now and need to figure out how to fill a wear mark in the main throttle shaft. All the linkages will be refreshed. I was able to source used plastic runners (old were cracked). The parts list grows every day.

W&N have a new source for tii water pumps.

Tii engine build: I just went through this.  Heaps of fun.  I bought the majority of my parts from W&N because of their extensive offerings, pricing, and DHL (3 day) shipping.  Although I don't think DHL ships to the US anymore.  Since W&N have been using UPS, the delivery is slower, and more expensive (brokerage).

Wes Ingram rebuilt my KFish pump but there are others that may be less expensive.   Wes has a fantastic reputation in the Pacific Northwest as an injection pump specialist for street and race pumps.

Make sure your machinist decks the upper and lower timing covers when they are decking the block and head.

Take it to your machinist.  They may have an answer, such as turning a new one on a lathe.

I did. But their emailed reply was spammed. I resent about a week later and then got tired of waiting. They did reply once I figured out it was filtered.

- I have traded emails with Wes. Thanks for the reference as well.

- Was dropping those off today.

- Good call. Was going to try a carb rebuild shop as well.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
