Putting the diff back together. Picked up all the replacement seals. Gasket on the top is NLA so I'm using black permatex to make a gasket. Waiting for the permatex to cure before I perform the finishing move.

Btw...I purchased 5 seals for less than the price of one from BMW. Rookie move ordering seals from BMW the first time.

you are this far in.....you really should drop the rear subframe, replace the bushings and clean up the subframe.  you said the bushings "looked ok", but if they are in any condition resembling the rest of that stuff, they need to be replaced.  subframe and trailing arm bushings.  if you don't do it now, you will have to take it all apart again to do it later.......do it now....

Agree...  Replace that diff hanger, too.

You did use the Permatex Ultra Grey for the diff?  I suppose Permatex Ultra Black would work, I use it for most everything... but I used Ultra Grey on diffs.

Diff is all done. There is nothing wrong with the hanger and the the bushings are fine. I'm putting this back together so I can drive it. I've already gone above and beyond what the cAr needs. I can always work on this car in the winter months.
